Powell’s Books

Powell’s is a good place to find new, used, and out of print books. They’re also a great alternative to Amazon.com.
The folks at Powell’s have a more down to Earth feel about them, which isn’t surprising considering that they have a brick-and-morter book store (or two). This shows in their professional yet people-centric website. They’re not just selling books here, they have a cat mascot called Fup who has their own regular story posted to the Powell’s web site, as well as a photo album.
Other refreshing features that you’ll find on their site is the “From The Authors” section, where they have interviews, original essays, and Q&As directly with the authors. There’s also the Powell’s blog where you can keep up with some of the news in the book and author world, and they have many other ways to involve the person with the book store as well.
Something else that’s worth mentioning is that they offer signed first editions of books as well.
I’m impressed, I think that it’s a nice accomplishment to have a professional online book store that still manages to somehow involve the person. Click here if you would like to go directly to their website. You of course don’t have to, but please don’t forget to grab the Firefox search plugin for Powell’s before you go.
