Google’s Schmidt Interview
Previously, I wrote an article about Google buying Writely, and noted to be careful about the type of documents that you create while using (and up load to) that service. As with everything else about Google, it is now a major privacy concern.
To compare, I find it interesting that so many people hate DoubleClick. They’re an advertising company who’s cookies are targetted by every “anti-spyware” utility available. Their cookies are rated as a “high threat” because they track their user’s browsing behavior across websites. This behavior, of course, is done to serve better ads.
Yet here we have Google who does infinitely more than that, and there are still people who love them. Is this ignorance, fanboisim, or something else entirely? Google uses everything that you do __ the email that you write, the searches that you perform, EVERYTHING that they own __ to target ads to you. If you’re logged into Google when you do something, then you’re being tracked for their advertising system.
Their system doesn’t use cookies as DoubleClick does. Their data about you is stored on their servers. At least with DoubleClick you are able to remove those cookies if you so desire. With Google? Nope, they have your information pretty much forever.
When will you people wake up? Quoting the article here…
Schmidt said he saw Writely and other server-based tools as another way to collect and organize the world’s data. “All the world’s information includes personal information,” he noted.
Are you really so willing to hand over everything about yourself to an advertising, data mining company?
