This is a non-issue. I uploaded a test video and found that you can, in fact, prevent certain countries from viewing the video that you upload. A strange option, but a user specified option nonetheless.
I’m not familiar with the options that are presented when you upload a video to Google Video. I want to make that clear at the start.
In browsing for something interesting to watch I came across a World of Warcraft video. These are generally entertaining so I decided to give it a go. Google, on the other hand, has other plans for me… and everyone else in the states.
If you go to this page and you live in the U.S. then you’re presented with a message that says, “This video is not playable in your country.”.
So what’s the deal? When you upload a file to Google Video can you choose to block certain areas of the world from watching it, or is this Google censoring their videos? I wasn’t aware that I lived in China, so I sure hope that this is the result of a user specified option and not Google playing Big Brother.
I would actually like to know the answer to this but I don’t produce videos of my own. Maybe I’ll grab Fraps’ shareware, cap a quick video and upload it to find out. - done, see first paragraph and comment below. Goodnight. :p
