Explain These Search Plugins!

The seach plugins that you see available from the side menu of this blog are add-ons for the Firefox web browser. The search box looks something like this: Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

How Is This Useful For Me?

Instant Access: Instantly access the search feature of specific web sites that interest you.

Simplify: They make your life easier by not cluttering up your bookmarks, you don’t have to remember the sites, and you can access the search feature regardless of which site that you’re on.

Organize: Of course, you don’t have to interrupt your browsing to use them. Hit CTRL+T to instantly open a new browser tab and do your searches in that window.

Convenience: You never have to pull up the site first. Just select which site that you want to search from by way of a convenient drop down menu and you’re ready to type your query. No page loads required for this step!

What About Privacy?

I never, ever, ever see what anyone is ever searching for. I don’t want to know that, anyway. All that I ever see are general sales figures; see below.

How Do They Help THIS Blog?

What do I get out of it? Simple! In some cases I get money, in other cases I get to make useful browser plugins. I’m a bit of a computer nerd, so it’s probably no surprise that I enjoy making the occasional search plugin just for the heck of it.

How do they get me money? Some companies will pay people commissions for sending them customers. Actually, a lot of companies will do that; I just try to find useful, cool sites to make plugins for. If they’re not useful to you then they’re obviously not going to make me any money, after all!

..but what about those sales figures?

Oh, that’s aggregated data. How many items sold during the month, what my commission was, and which products sold. Frankly, I pay no attention to which products sold. I don’t care about that information, either.

To clearify: No, I never know that you bought anything. I see only monthly tally numbers, statistics, and other number data.

Still need more proof to ease your mind? Here’s an example of what I see:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Nope, I definitely don’t make a killing at this. If I get $20 during a month then I feel awfully lucky!

How Do I Uninstall A Search Plugin?

Firefox doesn’t make that so easy, but not to worry, someone else has. Just click here to install a small extension that significantly simplifies the process.
