Hacked, Islam, & Political Messages
Shadows In Motion was brought down by its host and was temporarily unavailable.
The reason for this is that some group hacked my install of Wordpress to force an automatic refresh to a political message page. The page has some message that has something to do with Islam, but I was unable to read the message due to the huge ammount of traffic that the political page is receiving. Obviously, several web sites are currently being affected by a fault that has been exploited.
One of the other PHP scripts on my web site was also apparently hacked - probably by the same group at the same time - and was used to send out spam and traffic.
To those who are wondering what to do if your Wordpress has been hacked:
- It’ll be frustrating, but you have to get into your Wordpress control panel.
- The name of your blog will have been changed to the META REFRESH tag. Change it back to the name of your blog.
- At least one post category will have been changed to a META REFRESH tag as well. Change that back also
Then update your copy of Wordpress to hopefully patch any security holes. I’m about to update my Wordpress version, as well, but I figured that I should let folks know what was going on.
Political messages are all well and good, but defacing some one else’s property to do this will only cause more angst toward your cause. More people will dislike your group and will associate it with vandalism and a disregard for other’s personal space, properties, and beliefs.
There are more constructive ways to put out a message. Think about how your behavior will reflect on your own group before you indulge in the behavior. This is not the way to win over the minds and hearts of others, this is the way to make more people not care, and to not like you.
