“Wisps” Out Front

Did I have the honor of being visited by Sylphs - Elementals of Air? Or were these ethereal manifestations something else?
Personally I think that they were Sylphs, but I’ll let my readers make their own decisions. Read “More” to do just that.
When I was younger I lived in a house which had a fair bit of activity surrounding it. Some of that activity I’m sure resulted from some of my own magickal practices, but that couldn’t explain all of it.
This is one of those experiences who’s cause I’m unsure of. It could very well have indirectly resulted from the rituals I used to practice.
Then, as now, I enjoyed going out at night and enjoying the cooler temperature, peace, and quiet that come with the later hours. I would often sit outside and enjoy the breeze. Occasionally I would sit or lay with my eyes closed and listen to the wind blow through the tree tops which flanked the front yard. Other times I would watch as the upper branches swirled to & fro.
It was a beautiful night. The temperature was just right and the breeze steady. I vividly recall how it blew the tops of the trees in a circular motion above me as I sat there looking up. The effect was spellbinding.
This night proved to be a bit different from the others. As I sat there looking around the yard I became aware of tall, thin wisps of “smoke”. I call their appearance “smoke” for lack of a better word, but the description is inaccurate. I find that their appearance is difficult to describe.
They were approximately six feet tall, very thin, and seemed similar to waves of heat which you may see on streets during hot summer days. These beings, of course, “stood” (or floated) vertically. Although their movements were very slow they never stopped moving.
There were an unknown number of them - if I were to guess I would say that there were around five, give or take. They moved slowly around me, some of them appearing somewhat close to me while others maintained their distance in the grass nearest the street.
Yet, this experience wasn’t frightening in the least. In fact, I got the feeling that they were just as curious of me as I was of them. I think I recall giving one of them a slight nod or a little wave as we watched one another. The closest one was only within about seven feet of me.
Their presence didn’t stop me from enjoying the night. Indeed, I think that they may have helped with the breeze and the comfortable temperature that evening.
However, It seems that their curiosity wasn’t content with just watching.
At that time our yard was surrounded with a wooden fence. The fence was made of two horizontal rail-road ties which were stuck into a vertical post. On the left and right side of the fence we had white latticework in the shape of a “V” on which fake and real roses rested or grew. In the right portion of the yard there was a metal, vertical yard lamp which stood somewhere around five feet tall.
As I sat there watching the one closest to me I suddenly heard a loud crack to my left. It sounded as if the lattice work was pulled back only to be let loose and allowed to smack into the wood.
As you can imagine this made me give quite the jump! I looked at the area where the sound had come from then looked back at them. Oddly enough it wasn’t frightening, it just startled me a fair bit. In harmony with their seemingly curious personality I got the feeling that they were only wondering how I would react to the sudden sound.
After recovering from being startled I looked around at them, myself very curious. One would have expected the situation to have turned tense, but it seemed like an enchantment of calm had settled around the area and we simply continued to observe each other.
A few moments later another loud, sudden sound caused me to jump. This time one of them had pinged the lamp! Which, coincidently, was not very far from me at all.
After the first occurrence I was a little more prepared for a sudden sound, but this sounded as if a small rock had been beaned off of the lamp post. Prepared or not, I gave yet another good jump.
Calming down, this made me very curious about what they would do next, but they simply watched me for a good several minutes longer before fading from sight.
Even with the sudden noises, which typically send me into a momentary fit, I enjoyed their company. Although I’ve had several “strange” and ‘out of the norm’ things happen to me appearances such as these were uncommon. We merely sat (or floated) around and enjoyed the wonderful weather and breeze that night.
My closest guess - and mind you I am no expert - is that these beings were Sylphs or some other Elementals of Air. Which is why I suspect that they were indirectly related to the magick which I used to practice. At that time of my life I was practicing energy work… and, quite possibly, a powerful elemental energy invocation ritual.
