EverQuest 2: The New Starting Experience

Before I get into this review I think that it’s only fair to say that I’ve had some very negative things to say about EQ2 in the past. My opinion of the game beyond the starting experience is still the same.
With that said, I have to give kudos to the folks who have re-writtin […]

Powell’s Books

Powell’s is a good place to find new, used, and out of print books. They’re also a great alternative to Amazon.com.
The folks at Powell’s have a more down to Earth feel about them, which isn’t surprising considering that they have a brick-and-morter book store (or two). This shows in their professional yet people-centric […]

Ads in Distributed Themes? Argh!

This morning I uploaded a theme by isnaini.com. It’s a three column theme with the main content block situated on the left. It’s a fairly decent design that seems to be growing in popularity.
The problem is that the theme was loaded with ads, and they weren’t mine.
The right-center column contained AdSense and chitika codes, […]

Ye’ol Computer Issues

Yesterday I received the new CPU fan and heatsink that I ordered from Newegg. UPS, as usual, didn’t deliver the box until past 5:00 PM. This time, it was about 5:20 PM before the box arrived. I could vent more about them, but they’re not really worth the space.
Anyhow, the new block […]

Commentary: Google Admits Mistake With Videos

I’ve posted my thoughts about Google Video in other venues. The gist of my opinion is that it’s great for the end user to share their content and link to their videos from their blogs or from game guild websites, but as a commercial venue it’s terrible. I wouldn’t trust the service with […]

Explain These Search Plugins!

The seach plugins that you see available from the side menu of this blog are add-ons for the Firefox web browser. The search box looks something like this:
How Is This Useful For Me?
Instant Access: Instantly access the search feature of specific web sites that interest you.
Simplify: They make your life easier […]

Response: It’s My Project, No Competition Allowed

So, I just received a response from MyCroft explaining why the affiliate search plugin was removed. Their reason? They’re only allowing affiliate search boxes that fund their pockets. I am really, really curious about what other people think of this.
First of all, the Firefox browser links directly to this plugin repository. […]

MyCroft Deleting Affiliate Plugins

Despite the fact that the Firefox browser ships with affiliate plugins, the ones that you submit may be deleted from their database.
Today I discovered that every one of my search plugins had been deleted from the official MyCroft Mozilla / Firefox search plugin database. So I went about the process of updating every one […]

A Crazy Idea: A .blog TLD?

Here’s a crazy idea: How about a .blog TLD? We have .com, .info, .tv and so on. If blogs began to use a .blog identifier, would it help organize the Internet’s information?
There are pros and cons to this. Here are some that hit me as I type.
On the plus side, search […]

nevermind this

This is a non-issue. I uploaded a test video and found that you can, in fact, prevent certain countries from viewing the video that you upload. A strange option, but a user specified option nonetheless.
